What to expect

The portfolio is one of the most important things you need to check when hiring a creative service such as videography. Much less considered, but just as important to know, is how that person works.

Your videographer will be with you all day on one of the most important days of your lives, and you need to know if their filming style is one you will be comfortable with. I want to make sure your entire experience with me is a positive one, from your initial enquiry to after you’ve received your films. The following is designed to be as transparent as possible to allow you to have a really good idea of exactly what you get when you hire me.

Before the Wedding

My wife, Molly, and I are mad on customer service. I am available, whenever you need me, before and after the wedding. I always reply to every text and email as soon as I can, and if you need a chat either on the phone or via video call, we can arrange it as soon as is convenient for you. I encourage video calls before booking and included in my service is an in-depth, thorough virtual meeting with me one month before your wedding day so we can go through your plans in detail. This ensures I know all that is going on ahead of time so I am prepared and can do the best job possible. On the day, you don’t need anyone asking you what and when things are happening whilst you’re getting ready or chatting with your friends and family. I’ll make sure I have a complete running order for the day so this doesn’t need to happen.

Here’s how some of my previous couples have talked about my pre-wedding service:

The whole lead up to the wedding was brilliant - Nick took so much interest in how we wanted our film to look and you can totally see that in our final edits that reflect our day and us perfectly.
— Katie & Louis
Nick has been absolutely amazing from start to finish! The pre-wedding admin and communications were great and Nick asked the right questions to gauge exactly what we wanted.
— Paige & Louis

On the Day

I am very laid back and like to disappear into the background. Most people don’t like the feeling of a camera pointed towards them, so the more subtle and discreet I am, the better. I use zoom lenses to get close-up shots and I don’t direct or pose anything. All day I am on the look out for the best natural, candid moments. Nothing beats the buzz of capturing something real. I like to take a more documentarian approach, so I don’t want to interfere with your day in any way - I just want to record what happens.

For any posed shots with your photographer, such as your couple’s portraits, I tend to follow the photographer's lead so that all the footage is taken at once. You don’t need to spend time away from your day and your guests getting shots with the photographer and then repeat it all with me afterwards. Sometimes I find a location for a nighttime shot, and if you want to do it, this doesn’t take any longer than a few minutes. My aim is to be as unobtrusive as possible. If I could be invisible when filming weddings, I would!

Here’s what previous couples have said about me on the day:

He manages to remain calm in the most chaotic of settings during the bridal party rush and blends in naturally amongst your guests, putting everyone at ease for the best possible, relaxed shots
— Katrina & Dale
On our big day, Nick was brilliant and we didn’t even feel like we were being filmed which was a big worry for us with being nervous. He captured all the details perfectly.
— Paige & Louis

After the Wedding

When it comes to the edit, I aim to get your Teaser film to you as quickly as possible. I want you to have something to enjoy and share on social media or with your friends and family whilst you’re still basking in the glow of the day.

It’s at this point that Molly comes in too. She’ll cut the best parts of the footage, write up a plan for the video, pick out the best bits of dialogue, search for music options, and then we tend to collaborate on the edit with one of us in the driving seat and the other there to bounce ideas off of. The wedding film takes a long time to produce because we take every element of building the film very seriously. There is no cookie-cutter formula. Often, as Molly watches through the footage she will be forming an idea or theme for the film that is unique to that particular wedding.

The edit of your wedding film is tailored to you and your day, and our aim is to faithfully replicate the vibe and atmosphere. We are exceptionally detail-oriented; every shot is there for a reason, the order is purposeful, and every element of the film is considered and intentional. We can spend hours looking for the right music to convey the different emotions experienced throughout the day, that also matches your taste and style as a couple.

We are always pushing to learn new things. Molly may come up with something she thinks will look good and I have to work out how to make it happen. Self-development is important to us, so if there is an opportunity to learn a new skill, try something different, or adapt our approach, we will take it. We want to challenge ourselves, step outside our comfort zone, and as a result produce unique, tailored wedding films.

Here’s what some of my couples have said about their films:

From the beginning, it was clear from speaking to Nick that he wanted to make our film really special and unique to us, and that is absolutely reflected in the final version
— Rosy & Matt
The film really captured the fun of our day and made both me and my husband laugh and cry. I honestly still can’t believe how well it was all put together.
— Shannon & Zak
